Bailes snags fourth-place finish at Wythe Raceway

Ross Bailes returned to the driver’s seat of the H&H Auto Sales No. 79 Late Model on Thursday evening at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the inaugural Kyle Larson Presents Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos event. In a stout field of 42 cars, Bailes improved two spots in his heat race to register a second-place finish, which came behind Mike Marlar. With $20,000 on the line in the feature, Ross dropped two positions in the 50-lap affair to finish seventh. (Josh James Artwork)

On Friday evening at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) for the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals sanctioned contest, Ross followed up the third-fastest lap overall in time trials with a second-place finish in his heat. Starting the $10,053-to-win A-Main in sixth, Bailes race forward two spots in the 53-lapper to place fourth. He trailed Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport, and Chris Ferguson to the checkers with Dale McDowell coming in fifth.

For the weekend finale on Saturday, Bailes stopped at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the second annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial. Drawing 36 cars for the event co-sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals and the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series, Ross secured his spot into the $21,000-to-win A-Main with a second-place finish in his heat. Carrying a steady pace for all 60 laps, Bailes posted a seventh-place finish.
